Jonathon Anderson, Bill Hunter, Phil Zawarus and Ken McCown worked with John Curran; and Martin Swinehart of The Nature Conservancy to prepare a design for a 'permanent' Parklet to make an outdoor space by the renovated Carson Building in Downtown Las Vegas. Several Iowa State and UNLV students also participated in the development and the construction of the parklet.
The parklet is called 'The Waiting Game', an idea emerging from the parklets charrette at the UNLV Downtown Design Center. The concept emerged from the anticipation related to waiting for a table in restaurants. The Carson developers hope the restaurants there have that kind of popularity!
The parklet has a bar to use as a shelf for drinks with and a table with game boards and interactive elements. The table and chair tops are laser-etched Corian material. The etchings on the table and chairs connect people to parks and the flora and fauna of the Mojave Desert.
